BusAvanza

4th place at The Wave 2025 hackathon (Zaragoza): an urban-gamification app rewarding bus rides and avoiding polluted areas, built in 48 hours.

What it is

An urban gamification prototype built in 48 hours for the The Wave 2025 Zaragoza hackathon: encouraging public transport with points and rewards, while showing the city’s worst air-quality zones on a map. 4th place out of 50+ teams, in a team of 4.

What we built (in 48 h)

  • Interactive Leaflet map highlighting the city’s high-pollution zones.
  • Points and levels system (prototype): points per bus trip, bonus for avoiding red zones, levels and rewards redeemable for micromobility (scooters, bikes).
  • Impact dashboard with CO₂ saved.
  • Product proposal: fitting buses with HEPA filters to purify indoor air — the differentiating idea we pitched to the jury.

The honest part

It’s a hackathon prototype: a lightweight SPA (Vite + vanilla JavaScript) built to prove the idea in 48 hours, not a production product. What it does prove is something else: the ability to land an idea, build it and defend it under pressure — and place 4th out of 50+ teams.

Stack

JavaScript (vanilla) · Vite · Leaflet.js · deployed on Vercel.
